Chief Operating Officer
Rich Darby started his career in the funeral industry literally from the ground up. In 1980, as a teenager, one of his first positions was gravedigger at his family’s cemetery, Sunset Memorial Park. He also manufactured, set and serviced burial vaults as well as worked in many of the Trigard manufacturing facilities.
Rich later went to Southern Illinois University and received a degree in Mortuary Science. He received his Funeral Directors License in 1987 and is now licensed in Illinois, Indiana, and Arizona. He still directs funerals at his family’s seven funeral homes.
Today Rich is co-owner of the family’s business, including Trigard burial and cremation vaults, Trigard Memorials, Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Sunset Memorial Park and Camino del Sol Funeral Chapel & Cremation Center.
His daily duties involve connecting with every business entity in the Trigard Family of businesses. Keeping his finger on the pulse of day to day operations is exciting and is the reason he wakes up each morning.
Rich is a member of the National Funeral Director’s Association, The Illinois Funeral Director’s Association, and the Indiana Funeral Director’s Association. He belongs to Crossroads Christian Church in Danville, IL. Most recently Rich founded a nonprofit organization Operation Honor Guard which raises money to help outfit honor guards throughout the United States.
